6 challengers took to the streets for the second event of the 2007 season. The first gap came when the group split in two with Duncan, Werner and Vicente crossing the first hot spot together. But it all came back together quite quickly as it was still too early to break away. 

Vicente went off the front first and was later joined by Duncan. But they were reeled in quickly. Duncan set a hard pace on the first climb dropping both Joao and Rui almost at the top. At the sprint Vicente, Duncan, Werner and Alvaro with Joao and Rui 30 seconds down. 

A leading group of three Duncan, Alvaro and Vicente formed at the front with Joao leading the chase group. At the Hotspot Alvaro took it from Vicente with Duncan in third. Joao set the pace climbing out of the Hotspot leaving Werner and Rui behind. Joao was now chasing alone. Duncan also found himself alone. Meanwhile Alvaro and Vicente were leading the break working well together. At the second climb there was a four way split each 1 minute from the other. Alvaro and Vicent. Joao and Duncan. Werner alone and then Rui. 

Boom Duncan was out. No more legs after the second climb. His story ended right there. At the third Hotspot Joao was alone a minute and a half down on the lead group. 10 km later at the third climb he was 25 seconds down but the beginning of the last lap began with a strong head wind that saw Joao loose the gap gained. 

After the third climb it was good bye, thank you very much sir, we’ll see you next time, Werner. He called it quits. Meanwhile the chase was over for Joao. Alvaro dropped Vicente on the last climb to set himself up for the win. Alvaro began celebrating with about 3km to go. He Beat the race record time he set last year by 3minutes and 36seconds. 

Vicente did a good race to take second in each of the first two events. Rui’s form keeps getting better with every event. 

Alvaro now leads all the categories and has taken the step into successfully defending his title.
